a precious treasure

When Colby and I got married Colby had the coolest book, it was a recipe book that his mom made him full of Yummy, delicious, wonderful, luscious, tried and true recipes.  It is a book that we use in our house all the time.  It has recipes for salad, main dishes, veggies, desserts, breads, really anything you could ever want. I am really grateful for this book and I think it was such an awesome thing to do and make for your kids.  I have started one for my kids so hopefully by the time they are married they will have a book that is as precious as the cookbook that Bonnie gave to Colby so many years ago.

One recipe that I need to add to my cookbook is Ham and Beans… I love that I can call her anytime and she always has a yummy recipe for whatever I need.  Here is an oldie but goodie…

Ham and Beans

1 bag of pinto beans

left over ham

banana peppers

Sort your beans--weed out the broken ones, the ones that are half, and get the rocks out.  Use 3 cups of beans for a family of 4.   Use your 4 quart sauce pan and fill pretty full with water.  You don't have to wash your beans first as you are going to cook them for about 1 1/2 hours in this water.  After you cook them for the 1 1/2 hour, pour the water out, rinse the beans, wash your pan, and then put in your ham bone, beans, and add more water.  Bring to a boil and simmer for about 1 1/2 more hours.  Add salt and pepper to taste and more ham if needed.  Then add banana peppers when you eat the soup, yummy…
