it's off to kindergarten

It’s so sad to think about how fast my kids are growing up.  I know I was warned;  my sister, my mom, and my mother-in-law said, "cherish the moments they go fast," and boy were they right.  Soon Brielle will be married and Cooper will be in college and we’ll be traveling the world, so we hope or wish.  But I don’t think anything or anyone prepared me for the day I would have to send my first born to school.

Today is a HUGE moment in the Bower household:  Brielle’s first day of Kindergarten at Entz Elementary!

I took her to school with a huge lump in my throat, choking the tears back and sent her into the big world of school.  (Colby was there also, but he is a bit more macho then I am)  It was a lot harder then I thought it would be, but she’ll love school; my social little butterfly.  I guess if it doesn’t work out Erin keeps reminding me there is always home school, which for me, isn’t really and option.  She was fine and excited.  She walked into class (after making a bathroom stop) like it was no big deal.  Her teacher, Mrs. Coble was there to greet her with a big smile, along with 10 other crying parents and kids.  I definitely could tell it was the first day of kindergarten.

Don’t tell anyone, but I bawled the whole way home.  I’m such a baby.  It was so quiet in the car, we’ll sure miss her during the day!

Oh- my cute little Elley-Belly! She is getting so big, so fast. We are excited that she is at Entz with Chase and Makinley. They will love to see her everyday. Don't worry they will take good care of her- I promise! Have fun with Coopey, it is now his turn to have Mama to himself. It will be good for all of you. This won't be the last time you bawl your eyes out. Every time she meets a new milestone it will be exciting and scary at the same time. It doesn't get any easier as they get older. It is hard to watch your kids grow and experience new things without you- believe me I KNOW!

And off she goes ... into the BIG BIG WORLD! I am sure she is doing fantastic on her first day of school. I must say, she sure does look cute!

Here are my thoughts on this:
Have a few more kids, and by the time the last couple are off to their first day of school (which, in our house, somehow keeps getting earlier and earlier - Angelina started school at 18 months!) you will be having a party in the car! Any tears you shed will be of pure joy - joy that you now have a few precious hours to pee in peace, eat your breakfast or snack sitting down instead of standing, listen to "adult-type" music in the car instead of Wee Sing Bible Songs, Barney, or the tinny Radio Disney on AM. You will also get to make a few phone calls without your kids screeching in the background the SECOND you pick up the phone, send a few emails without them panting at your feet pretending to be dogs, and take a shower without panicking about what they are getting into (and then finding out they have colored on the couch with dry erase markers, fed the cats popsicles, and printed 28 color pictures on your work printer.)
Well, in spite of the above-mentioned bliss, I too get teary-eyed on occasion, and can definitely sympathize. So enjoy each moment, and don't wish for the time to speed up or slow down - just thank God for your family, your ability to take care of them, and the blessings he has poured down on you:)

I can't believe our girls are old enough to go to school! I can remember when we were both pregnant with them! It is sad, but I am also excited because I know it will be so good for them! She looks darling, by the way!

Her hair is DARLING. She looks absolutely precious! I'll bet her teacher just loves her. I always love hearing her call to Blake from the top of the swingset, "Gunther! Gunther!" Those are memories that will always bring a smile to my face. :)
