Mountain Men (& kids too)
Saturday, June 13 |
Say Something It was time to blow this joint and head up to the ranch. So we packed the gear and went road trippin' up north. This time, Heather stayed down in the valley so I invited our neighbor (Nate) up with his daughter (Aubrey) to spend a Saturday and Sunday up in the high altitude. We often forget that the Flake family ranch is only about two and a half hours away, barely more than an average movie, and we have not been up there in a while, as Cooper was still growing big enough to handle nature's wrath (mostly skinned knees and the occasional bug).
We arrived at about 10:30am on Saturday and surveyed the possibilities. We got the kids settled in and got the car unloaded. Now it was time to shoot some stuff. We sighted in the Daisy BB guns and got to firing. The kids really liked this part. We probably shot through a couple of hundred BB's before the kids were ready to move on. The best part is no one came back with an eye patch.

The we broke out the big guns and shot up some clay pigeons. BB guns only satisfy the shooting itch so far you know. The kids just watched in the car. Let's just say, the clay pigeons weren't exactly quaking in their boots.
Time for dinner. The wind was blowing about 40mph so we had to use the brick stove to build the fire in so we could cook up the hot dogs. It worked great. Nate broke out his little hot pocket maker and we got some cherry and applie "pies" cooking over the hot coals. He brought up two, and only one survived as the fire was freaking hot.
We did lots of other fun stuff too, but mostly its mundane to repeat in the blog here. But hiking, working on a huge fort, catching lizards, and smashing things. All too much fun.
